PLACE-HAMPI EXHIBITION

Following on from the success of the exhibition at the Immigration Museum Melbourne in 2008, PLACE-Hampi was sold to JSW Steel in Karnataka, India for permanent display in a purpose-built museum.

A team from DLD, White Cube and Melbourne Museum travelled to India in January for the exhibition installation.

This unique exhibition is a combination of archaeology, photography and virtual-reality technology, re-creating and contextualising the stunning World Heritage site of Hampi in southern India. It represents years of passion and hard work by a range of creators including Sarah Kenderdine and photographer John Gollings, who for over 20 years has been documenting Hampi.

Using state of the art digital technologies, the exhibition includes animations of Hindu myths and stories, an immersive digital interactive space showing panoramic images of the site and its landscape, as well as captivating photography.

Drawing on the colours and textures of the culture, its history and the landscape, the exhibition was designed to allow for a sense of journey and effective visitor flow and offers visitors a distinctive sensory and immersive experience.

The exhibition was re-designed to sit within the new building in Karnataka. New graphic panels were produced in English, Hindi and Kannada, the languages of the area.
