PLACE-HAMPI MELBOURNE

This unique exhibition is a combination of archaeology, photography and virtual-reality technology, re-creating and contextualising the stunning World Heritage site of Hampi in southern India. It represents years of passion and hard work by a range of creators including Sarah Kenderdine and photographer John Gollings, who for over 20 years has been documenting Hampi.

Using state of the art digital technologies, the exhibition includes animations of Hindu myths and stories, an immersive digital interactive space showing panoramic images of the site and its landscape, as well as captivating photography.

David Lancashire Design, in conjunction with White Cube, designed the exhibition to sit within the Heritage listed Immigration Museum. Drawing on the colours and textures of the culture, its history and the landscape, the exhibition was designed to allow for a sense of journey and effective visitor flow and offers visitors a distinctive sensory and immersive experience..

“The way all the elements have come together – the photography, sound, archaeology and immersive technologies – is remarkable and has a profound and lasting impact on visitors.” Sarah Kenderdine
